How to set the margins of Product beautifier results
By default, the AI places each product itself in a Product beautifier result, so the space between the product and the edges of the image can vary from one image to the next. On an e-commerce grid, that shows as products that look slightly bigger or smaller than their neighbors. Product beautifier margins lets you fix that space once for your whole organization, so every new result keeps the same margin.
Where to find it
Section titled “Where to find it”Go to Configuration › Preferences, open the Generation tab, and scroll to Product beautifier margins, under Default aspect ratios.
If you don’t see the section, margins are not available on your account yet. Ask us through Talk to a human.
How to set it
Section titled “How to set it”Pick one of the two modes under How margins are set:
- Automatic (the default): the AI places each product itself, as it always has. Margins can vary from one image to the next.
- Custom: every new result keeps the margin you choose. Drag the Margin slider between 2.5% and 25%, in steps of 0.5%. The first time you switch to Custom, it starts at 7.5%.
The setting is saved as soon as you release the slider or change the mode. It applies to your whole organization.
What the margin measures
Section titled “What the margin measures”The margin is a percentage of the image, measured on the side where the product comes closest to the edges, and the product is centered. At 7.5%, a tall product such as trousers spans 85% of the image’s height with 7.5% above and below it; a wide product such as a sneaker spans 85% of the image’s width with 7.5% on each side. The other direction gets more space, depending on the product’s shape.
The preview under the slider shows the margin on three sample products (a T-shirt, trousers and a sneaker) in your default ratio for the Product beautifier. To change that ratio, use Default aspect ratios on the same tab.
Which results it applies to
Section titled “Which results it applies to”- New results only. Results you already have keep their current margins. To bring an older result in line, beautify the product again.
- Every way you launch the Product beautifier: from the app and through the API, for clothing, shoes and headwear.
- Backgrounds it applies to: plain colors (the Monochrome, Pastel and Vivid backgrounds, and your own custom colors) and Transparent. On a plain color, the product is placed on the exact color of the background you chose, without a shadow under it.
- Backgrounds it does not apply to: Floor backgrounds. Their texture cannot be extended without a visible seam, so those results keep the margins the AI chose, even when a custom margin is set.
- Edit with AI: an edited result is generated again by the AI, which places the product itself, so the edit may not keep the custom margin.
If a result could not be adjusted (rarely, when the product cannot be separated cleanly from its background), it is delivered as the AI framed it rather than failing.
